Police Officer Pradeep Tamang, Gwinnett County, Georgia, Dies in Line-of-Duty Shooting

GWNNETT COUNTY, Ga. — The Gwinnett County community is grieving the loss of Police Officer Senior Pradeep Tamang (#2741), who tragically died in the line of duty on Sunday, February 1, 2026. The fatal incident occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. at 1790 E. Park Place Blvd., while officers were responding to a fraud call.

During the encounter, a suspect fired upon the responding officers. Officer Tamang and Master Police Officer David M. Reed (#1802) returned fire, injuring the suspect. Both officers were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Sadly, Officer Tamang succumbed to his injuries. Officer Reed remains in critical but stable condition.

Officer Tamang joined the Gwinnett County Police Department in July 2024 and was a proud graduate of the 121st Police Academy in May 2025. Officer Reed has served since September 2015 and graduated from the 94th Police Academy.

The suspect, 35-year-old Kevin Andrews, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and will be taken into custody after hospital treatment. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has assumed control of the investigation.

The Gwinnett County community, along with law enforcement agencies statewide, mourns the loss of Officer Tamang and continues to support Officer Reed in his recovery.
