Remembering Symini Moore: Northwood Teen Dies in Tragic Shooting

NORTHWOOD, Ohio — The Northwood community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of 15-year-old Symini Moore, who was fatally shot on January 23 in an apartment on the 3700 block of Lakepointe Drive. Moore, a student at Woodmore High School, was pronounced dead at the scene after authorities responded to reports of a shooting around 10:45 p.m.

According to the Lake Township Police Department, four people were present in the apartment when the incident occurred, including 18-year-old Jakob Heintzelman, his girlfriend, and another male. Heintzelman has been arrested and charged with reckless homicide and is being held without bond. Authorities say Heintzelman claims the gun discharged accidentally while he was cleaning it.

Symini Moore was remembered by her family, friends, and community as a bright, kind, and compassionate young woman. She worked at Granny’s Kitchen, excelled academically as an honor roll student, and participated in extracurricular activities such as sports, choir, and Future Farmers of America. A memorial page honoring Moore said, “If you ever met Symini Rai Moore, you remember her smile. It was the kind that lit up a room instantly—the kind that made people feel seen, welcomed, and cared for without her ever having to say a word.”

Her untimely death has left a profound void in the Northwood community, as loved ones and classmates remember the warmth and joy she brought to those around her.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Moore’s death and encourage anyone with information to contact the Lake Township Police Department.
