SJSO Investigating Homicide in LaPlace; Suspect Arrested

LAPLACE, La. — The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide that left one man dead early Sunday morning, February 15, 2026, in LaPlace.

Deputies responded around 12:45 a.m. to the 1900 block of North Sugar Ridge Drive after reports of a male lying on the ground with a gunshot wound. Upon arrival, they found Trey Johnson, 32, of LaPlace, suffering from a gunshot wound. Johnson was transported by ambulance to Ochsner Medical Complex LaPlace, where he was later pronounced dead.

A second victim, a 39-year-old man, was also shot and transported to the hospital by private vehicle.

During the investigation, detectives identified Andrew Brown, 33, of LaPlace, as a suspect. Brown was arrested Sunday night around 9:30 p.m. and booked with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder. He is currently being held in the parish jail under a $1.25 million bond.

The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the incident and is asking for the public’s help.
