ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis community is mourning the tragic loss of William Palmer, who was fatally shot early Sunday morning, February 1, 2026, in downtown St. Louis.
According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the shooting occurred around 2:25 a.m. in the 900 block of North 9th Street. Investigators said Palmer had offered help to a woman, later identified as Brittany A. Rivoire, so she would not be left out in the cold. A friend who was also inside Palmer’s truck exited the vehicle after expressing concerns about Rivoire’s behavior.
Police said Rivoire later shot Palmer and fled the scene in his truck, which she abandoned a few blocks away. She then walked to a nearby fast-food restaurant, where a bystander allowed her to ride in his vehicle. Officers stopped that vehicle shortly afterward, took Rivoire into custody, and recovered a handgun. Surveillance video captured the shooting, according to police.
William Palmer was pronounced dead following the incident. His sudden and violent death has left family, friends, and the wider St. Louis community grieving a life lost far too soon.
Rivoire, 36, has been charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action, unlawful possession of a firearm, and first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle. She remains jailed without bond.
William Palmer is remembered with sorrow, compassion, and heartfelt sympathy by all who knew him.
