BRADENTON, Fla. — The Bradenton Police Department has arrested a suspect in connection with a shooting that occurred Thursday afternoon at a medical and office complex.
Authorities identified the suspect as Keith Roberts, Jr., 29, who is charged with first-degree murder with a firearm and attempted first-degree murder with a firearm.
Detectives said Roberts entered a suite of offices in the 5200 block of 4th Ave. Cir. E., where he fatally shot his ex-girlfriend, Myshaela Burnham, 29. He then fired at an office employee who witnessed the homicide. The employee was hospitalized and remains in stable condition; her name has not been released.
911 callers reported a vehicle leaving the scene. Police determined it was traveling toward the DeSoto Bridge. With assistance from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office and Palmetto Police Department, Roberts was taken into custody in Palmetto within 25 minutes of the shooting. He agreed to speak with detectives from the Manatee Homicide Investigation Unit and was formally arrested shortly before 6 p.m.
The shooting occurred at a lab processing facility within the office complex. The Manatee Homicide Investigation Unit and CSI remain on the scene as the investigation continues.
Officials said this is an active and ongoing investigation, and further details will be released as they become available.
