DOTHAN, Ala. — Authorities have identified the pedestrian killed Sunday evening on Montgomery Highway as David Tice, 18.
According to Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd, the crash occurred around 7 p.m. in the 4800 block of Montgomery Highway. Tice had just finished his shift at LaParilla Mexican Restaurant and had told co-workers he planned to walk to Walmart. While walking along the roadway, he was struck by a semi-truck and pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say Tice was walking back along Montgomery Highway when the crash occurred. The southbound lanes were closed for several hours as traffic was diverted through nearby shopping areas while authorities responded to the scene.
The incident remains under investigation as officials work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the crash.
