PORT ALLEN, La. — Three Hammond residents were killed in a crash along I-10 eastbound in West Baton Rouge Parish on Monday morning, January 19, according to Louisiana State Police.
The crash occurred around 4 a.m. when a vehicle drove off the roadway into the woods and struck a tree between the Grosse Tete and Lobdell exits, causing the car to catch fire. Emergency responders arrived at the scene but were unable to save the occupants.
The victims were identified as Kelvanisha Stanley, 20, the driver, and passengers Kareem Felder, 19, and Jakobe Brumfield, 20, all residents of Hammond. All three were pronounced dead at the scene.
The vehicle was heavily damaged in the fire, and authorities are investigating the cause of the crash. The Louisiana State Police continue to examine potential contributing factors.
