Timur Khabelov, age 44, of Brooklyn, New York, tragically lost his life early Tuesday morning in a violent, high-speed motor vehicle crash in Bensalem Township, Pennsylvania.
According to Bensalem Township Police, the crash occurred around midnight near the Street Road and Interstate 95 interchange. Police, fire, and EMS crews were dispatched to the scene after reports of a vehicle fire with passengers trapped inside.
A preliminary investigation determined that Khabelov was driving a silver 2013 Chevrolet Sonic eastbound on Street Road at a high rate of speed. Authorities said he failed to stop for a red traffic signal at the northbound I-95 ramp intersection and collided with a 2017 Dodge Journey that was exiting the highway and legally turning left onto westbound Street Road on a green light.
The impact was so severe that the Chevrolet became airborne, crossed the center median, and struck a 2015 Honda Accord that was stopped in the westbound lanes. After coming to rest in the roadway, the Chevrolet caught fire.
Police said Timur Khabelov was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Bensalem Volunteer Fire Department extinguished the fire and assisted in rescuing two passengers from the burning Chevrolet. The passengers, Farruh Homidov, 43, and Askar Narziev, 39, were transported by Bensalem EMS to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital in Philadelphia, where both remain in critical condition.
The drivers of the Dodge Journey and the Honda Accord were taken to local hospitals with injuries described as non-life-threatening, police said.
Authorities confirmed the entire crash was captured on intersection surveillance cameras. While the investigation remains ongoing, police stated that the possible involvement of drugs or alcohol has not been ruled out, pending the results of an autopsy and toxicology reports.
Timur Khabelov’s sudden and tragic death has left loved ones mourning a life lost far too soon. He is remembered today not for the circumstances of his passing, but for the place he held in the hearts of those who knew him.
May he rest in peace, and may comfort surround all who grieve his loss.
