MILAN, Tenn. — Authorities are investigating a devastating incident in Milan that left two adults dead early Monday morning.
The niece of the female victim, identified as April Mae, contacted the Mirror-Exchange and reported that her aunt was allegedly killed by her boyfriend. According to the family, the suspect left a note instructing his children to know that he loved them.
Abby Miller, who called the newspaper just before noon, said the suspect allegedly shot Mae, set the home on fire, and then took his own life.
Local authorities have since confirmed that two adults, a male and a female, were found dead at the residence on West Cherry Street. Officials are treating the case as a double suicide, though the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations is leading a full investigation and has not yet released a formal statement.
A significant presence of fire, rescue, and law enforcement personnel remains at the scene, where the fire was first reported earlier Monday morning. At least one person was found inside the home, according to sources on the scene.
The Mirror-Exchange will provide updates as more information becomes available.
