Two Arrested After Fatal Shooting That Killed 19-Year-Old Ottawa Man

OTTAWA — Ottawa police have identified 19-year-old Majed Al-Ar as the victim in the city’s third homicide of the year following a shooting near Manotick on Wednesday afternoon.

The shooting occurred on Bankfield Road near Prince of Wales Drive. Emergency crews responded to the scene at approximately 4:30 p.m., according to the Ottawa Paramedic Service. Al-Ar was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries but later succumbed to his wounds. A second man was also taken to hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

Police confirmed that two men have been arrested in connection with the incident. However, authorities have not yet released their names or announced any charges. The investigation remains ongoing.

Residents in the area described a heavy emergency response and a shocking scene. Ariel Lasher, who lives directly in front of where the shooting occurred, said she heard yelling before going outside and seeing one individual with a gunshot wound to the elbow and another person lying on the roadway. Within minutes, numerous police and emergency vehicles arrived.

The roadway remained closed until approximately 2:30 a.m. Thursday as officers conducted their investigation.

Another resident, Colleen Craig, said she initially believed the sirens were due to a traffic collision — something not uncommon in the area — but quickly realized the situation was more serious as emergency vehicles continued to arrive.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting and are expected to provide further updates.
