MARTIN COUNTY, Texas — Two people, including a 7-year-old child, were killed and three others injured in a crash on SH 349 Thursday evening, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Preliminary investigations indicate that 23-year-old Mariano Molinar, driving a 2022 Dodge Challenger northbound on SH 349, allegedly performed a U-turn and collided with a southbound 2009 Ford F-150. Molinar was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities noted he was not wearing a seatbelt.
The driver of the Ford, 50-year-old Carlos Tijerina, was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital in serious condition. Two other passengers were also injured in the crash, while a 7-year-old child traveling in the Ford was killed.
The crash remains under investigation, and authorities have not released further details at this time.
