PORTLAND, Maine — Authorities have identified the man who died in a tragic early morning crash on the Maine Turnpike as Daniel St. Peter, 33, of Windham.
According to Maine State Police, the accident occurred shortly after 1:45 a.m. Thursday on the Exit 53 off-ramp from Interstate 95 north in Portland. Troopers responded to reports of a single-vehicle crash and arrived to find a blue Honda Accord that had left the roadway and rolled over.
Investigators say Daniel St. Peter was behind the wheel at the time of the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Exit 53 off-ramp was shut down for approximately 90 minutes as authorities conducted their on-site investigation and crews worked to remove the damaged vehicle. Traffic in the area was temporarily impacted while the scene was processed.
Officials have not yet released additional details regarding what may have caused the vehicle to leave the roadway. The cause of the crash remains under active investigation by Maine State Police.
St. Peter’s sudden passing has left family, friends, and members of the Windham community grieving his loss as they await further answers surrounding the circumstances of the crash.
